About this Painting: I completed this painting of a Grevy’s Zebra, one of my favorite animals, in 1998 after my trip to South Africa. He was about 4' tall at the shoulder. He was walking with a herd who was feeding in a grassy area near my group’s camp. There are three species of Zebras: (1) the Grevys Zebras, which have small stripes and white bellies; (2) the Mountain Zebras, which have pointed ears and small stripes, except on the hindquarters where the stripes are very large; and (3) the Plains Zebras, which have stripes wider in width which cover the belly. The Plains Zebra is the smallest of the three at about four and-a-half feet, and the most common. The three species do not interbreed.
