About this Painting: When walking along the beach in Santa Barbara, I observed many shore birds running back and forth just ahead of the tide, which added dimension and life to the shoreline. As the sun set, the light turned the blues and greens of the water to aquas, purples, and pinks. Depicted here are two gray willets who are part of the sandpiper family. They huddle together and make loud screeching sounds as they take off for flight. I was fascinated by their alertness, quickness to flight, and agility in making turns and quick stops.
