About this Painting: I photographed this whimbrel as he was migrating through Santa Cruz Island, California in November. Santa Cruz Island is the largest in the Channel Islands chain off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. The Channel Islands are part of the National Parks system. I felt inspired by the afternoon sun and the long shadow cast by the bird. I captured the inquisitive look of the bird as I approached him.This painting was selected into the Arts for the Parks ATop 100" competition out of 3000 slide entries in 1991.
