"Zimbabwe Granite - Fall",
2002, Watercolor on Paper, 14 x 21
SOLD - Prints Available

About this Painting: I was on safari in Zimbabwe in 1998. Our group stopped, and we ate lunch in the shade of a large tree. We were near the road going from Harare to the national park north and east toward Zambia. The large granite boulders and the orange blossoms were an arresting sight. The boulders were about 40 feet high, and the trees were up to 60 feet tall. I worked a quick field study on location to capture some of the orange colors and decided that a final artwork needed to be done in watercolor rather than in oil. The texture in the rocks was especially fun, and the contrasting orange blossoms against the granite rock were striking and difficult to capture.
