Photo: "Chama - Morning Fog"

"Chama - Morning Fog",
2003, Oil on Canvas, 16 x 20

About this Painting: Northern New Mexico has some beautiful countryside, including mountains up to 11,000 feet, rushing rivers, aspen, pine, and junipers. The Rio Chama River has great spring and summertime trout fishing. The town is known for its small gauge train which is coal/steam driven – one of the last in operation today. I found this foggy valley about 7:30 in the morning. The sun was just breaking through the fog, and the colors were spectacular. It had rained the day before which left moisture in the air. The warm sun created this low lying fog. The bluish white fog against the yellows, greens, and oranges provided dynamic lighting which gave depth to the scene.
